Range and traditional context

Krittika occupies the equal sidereal sector from Aries 26°40′ to before Taurus 10°00′. Krittika is associated with Agni and cutting imagery, with a traditional connection to the Pleiades.

A reference to a star group or symbol is not the mathematical definition of this sector. In this guide, the sector is defined by longitude. The birth-star label uses the Moon; another body can occupy the same sector without making it your Moon-based birth nakshatra.

The four padas

Each pada spans 200 arcminutes, or 3°20′. Start points are included and end points are excluded.

PadaStarts atEnds before
1Aries 26°40′Taurus 0°00′
2Taurus 0°00′Taurus 3°20′
3Taurus 3°20′Taurus 6°40′
4Taurus 6°40′Taurus 10°00′

Krittika crosses from Aries into Taurus. Its first pada is in Aries; the remaining three are in Taurus. A change in sign inside this nakshatra does not restart the pada count.

Worked Moon example

Take an invented sidereal Moon longitude of 32°, equivalent to Taurus 2°00′. Its offset from the start of Krittika is 320 arcminutes.

floor(320 ÷ 200) + 1 = 2

The example is Krittika, pada 2. It is not a current ephemeris position or a personal reading. Reproduce it in the birth-star calculation notebook, keeping the same zodiac and offset convention.

Using the symbolism carefully

The cutting image can be used as a question about discernment: which assumption needs separating from the evidence? Agni is a traditional deity association. Neither image establishes that a person is inherently harsh or that an event will occur.

Naming practices sometimes associate syllables with the pada. Consult the naming guide for the method and language caveats. For a personal chart, verify your birth inputs before comparing a label; precise-looking output cannot repair uncertain birth time or an unstated ayanamsa.
