Range and traditional context
Rohini occupies the equal sidereal sector from Taurus 10°00′ to before Taurus 23°20′. Rohini is traditionally associated with Prajapati/Brahma and cart or chariot imagery; Aldebaran is its stellar reference.
A reference to a star group or symbol is not the mathematical definition of this sector. In this guide, the sector is defined by longitude. The birth-star label uses the Moon; another body can occupy the same sector without making it your Moon-based birth nakshatra.
The four padas
Each pada spans 200 arcminutes, or 3°20′. Start points are included and end points are excluded.
| Pada | Starts at | Ends before |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Taurus 10°00′ | Taurus 13°20′ |
| 2 | Taurus 13°20′ | Taurus 16°40′ |
| 3 | Taurus 16°40′ | Taurus 20°00′ |
| 4 | Taurus 20°00′ | Taurus 23°20′ |
Rohini begins at Taurus 10°, not at Taurus 0°. Subtract its actual starting longitude before counting padas. Counting from the sign start instead produces the wrong interval.
Worked Moon example
Take an invented sidereal Moon longitude of 45°, equivalent to Taurus 15°00′. Its offset from the start of Rohini is 300 arcminutes.
floor(300 ÷ 200) + 1 = 2
The example is Rohini, pada 2. It is not a current ephemeris position or a personal reading. Reproduce it in the birth-star calculation notebook, keeping the same zodiac and offset convention.
Using the symbolism carefully
A cart or chariot offers a metaphor for supporting a process: what needs structure, maintenance or patient attention? The imagery is cultural context. It should not become a claim that everyone with a Rohini Moon has the same appearance, temperament or life outcome.
Naming practices sometimes associate syllables with the pada. Consult the naming guide for the method and language caveats. For a personal chart, verify your birth inputs before comparing a label; precise-looking output cannot repair uncertain birth time or an unstated ayanamsa.
